SKATE
Academy

Our main mission is to promote and develop skateboarding through both training and competition. We offer regular classes for athletes from the age of five, providing a structured and motivating environment for young skaters. Daniel Schiebelbein is now the primary coach guiding the new generation, helping them build skills and confidence on the board. Skate lessons take place in nearby skateparks, with sports equipment and insurance included.

Skate History

Skateboarding originated in California in the 1960s and 70s, when surfers began using small boards with wheels on days without waves — and skateboarding was born. Empty swimming pools and large aqueducts became the first playgrounds for early riders. Today, skateboarding is an Olympic sport practiced year-round by millions worldwide. Gustavo Ribeiro is the most successful Portuguese skateboarder to date, consistently ranking in the top 10 of the World Skate Ranking.

In 2016, the PTMSC Skate Center built a mini ramp on Praia da Rocha beach, near our headquarters in the Sports Area. Although this original mini ramp has since been taken down, it played an important role in bringing Portimão’s skate community together, especially inspiring young riders who grew more passionate about the sport day by day.

Today, Portimão is home to two vibrant skateparks that continue to energize the local scene.

The iconic Skatepark das Artes blends creativity and flow, while the newer Skatepark da Juventude gives young riders a fresh space to progress and connect. Together, these parks create a unique environment where old-school skaters and the younger generation naturally mix, share tricks, and inspire one another, keeping Portimão’s skate culture strong and evolving.
